#1: The Emperor's Children by Claire Messud

I think my expectations were too high and while I was really excited for the book, since everybody else was so excited about it, I ended up feeling quite alienated from the characters and rooting for nobody, and I agree with Kurt Vonnegut that writers should always create at least one character the audience can root for.
