#18: The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro

The trouble with this book is that it is a technical marvel and shows a mastery of emotional verisimilitude, as well as a pitch-perfect narrator, but by virtue of that character’s personality the book is off-puttingly chilly and distant until the final pages—I vastly prefer Ishiguro’s brilliant Never Let Me Go.
