#45: The Night Villa by Carol Goodman
I love Carol Goodman’s books so much, and I feel as though this one failed me a little because the tiny bit of romance she offers up in each novel is part of the satisfactory ending, and in the case of The Night Villa the romantic partner Goodman chose for Sophie Chase, her scholar heroine, was not the one I was rooting for (I had quite the soft spot for Ely)—however, as always Goodman took a fascinating story of classical and literary origins and spun it out into a page-turning quasi-mystery, and I liked it as much as The Sonnet Lover, if not as much as The Lake of Dead Languages and The Ghost Orchid.
